There are many wireless network adaptors available on the market right now. Wireless Network adaptor is different for each type of computer. For example if you are using desktop pc you might want to use Wireless PCI Adapter see the picture (Linksys WMP54G).

PCI is a (Peripheral Component Interconnect), an industry-standard bus for attaching peripherals to computers.

If you are using notebook, there is a slot for the PCMCIA Card Wireless Network Adaptor which is sometime come with the omni-directional antenna with it. But normally it is just a card, where you can just plug in into the slot provided. For example Linksys WPC54G

The popular one is the Wireless USB Network Adaptor . This is among the best choices for those who need plug and play network device. I just bought D-Link DWA-130 Wireless N USB Adapter which has the much higher capability then wireless b/g type. If you want to increase the wireless signal you can try the homemade DIY wireless signal booster.

I don’t have any physical router to create an ad-hoc connection to share internet connection with my iPod. Currently I am using a software called Virtual Router to create a virtual network that can shared an internet connection. Virtual router is a simple software that able to replicate the router function so any wifi supported devices like Laptop, Smart Phone, iPod Touch, iPhone, Android Phone, Zune, Netbook, wireless printer, etc can get access to internet. It works like a normal access point which will provide secured and encrypted connection. Below are the guide to setup the Virtual Router for wireless ad-hoc connection inside windows 7.

Create wireless ad hoc connection

Download the Virtual Router here and installed inside the host computer.
After installed the software, setup the configuration for your wireless access point. The software are using WPA2 encryption and you need to setup more than 8 characters of password for the wireless ad-hoc connection. SElect the appropriate internet connection to shared otherwise you cannot connect your iPod to the internet. Finally click on the Start button and you are now have the wireless ad-hoc connection from your pc. The picture below show my ipod connected to the virtual wireless ad-hoc connection setup using Virtual Router.

It is possible to boost your psp wireless reception by adding PSP wireless antenna. But you need to mod your PSP and do some soldering into the circuit board. All you need to do is find where is the wireless networking card inside your PSP.The video will show you the example of this mod but the user does not shows the proof of concept of this mod.

psp wireless antenna

The antenna is positioned at the psp button.

The wireless antenna inside the PSP is a thin film that made out from copper and solder to the wire.

psp wireless antenna

To add the external PSP wireless antenna you may need a standard Female SMA connector and solder it to the wire.

PSP sma connector

I am still researching on this idea but it is possible to do since it have the same principle as adding addition antenna to Huawei E220 modem.

Dragoslav Dobricic, YU1AW provided detailed information on how to design the Shortened 3D corner reflector antenna. In this paper also he provide a method on how to use the antenna with another frequencies and not just for wireless 2.4GHz. I haven’t tested the antenna myself but I am going to try this soon since the gain is quite high up and the design is quite straight forward. I think the only cons is the amount of metal used in this design, maybe can try the variation between the solid metal and wire mesh. You can download the complete detail about design, dimension extra detail in pdf file format.

If you research for wireless TV antenna you probably have some common themes. Location, size , construction & Gain , reception. This economical wireless TV antenna design has all the features you want. Construction of the wireless TV antenna design is very light and probably bad idea if your location is always exposed to climate change. However, everything else is really great, especially for that price $ 18! It assembles easily with only four wing-nuts and six small screws.

The remote control & built-Rotator is a great feature, especially for a small antenna to target receive and capture more stations. You don’t need to climb your roof to fix the signal reception. Just dot it wirelessly from the remote control. This is usually an “extra” add-on feature with other antennas. The complete antenna is about the size of a hedge trimmer and very lightweight. It also has a built-in amplifier that really helps pull in weak, distant stations. Definitely good choices for those who need cheap wireless tv antenna.

This outdoor wireless antenna is probably the best solution for those who seek for mobility of antenna. The outdoor wireless antenna from LDiO is actually a built in wireless USB adapter with a 12dBi gain external antennas. Powered by USB and use only 500mW of power this outdoor wireless antenna will extend or boost your wireless reception by 10X from the original signal, suitable for long range condition. The advantage of the LDiO outdoor antenna is because it is using usb 2.0 port as a connector, whereby you can use it with your laptop or netbooks and there is no need to attach it to the normal SMA Connector. It supports AP mode and the manufacturer claim that this outdoor wireless antenna can cover up to 1000m.
